External Wall Insulation: Installation Process
A Castle Point surveyor will visit your property to assess suitability. We will then complete a comprehensive “Homeowner Site Survey Report” this includes;
- Condition of walls to be insulated & rendered
- Inspection of current window sills (these may need extending).
- Inspection of all guttering including drain & soil pipes.
- Depth of eaves.
- Inspection of all external fixtures such as satellite dishes, outside lights, gateposts, hanging baskets etc.
- Inspection of all external gas flues and power line cables.
- Assessment of any width restrictions which may affect future works.
- Details of pull out tests required.
A copy of the “Homeowner Site Survey Report” will then be made available for the homeowner.
Typical “Order of Works” upon commencement of job:
- Scaffolding is erected if your property exceeds one storey
- Castle Point Insulation installers will remove fittings as detailed either above or in the “Homeowner Site Survey Report (rainwater pipes, satellite dish etc).
- We then prepare the surface for our insulation system, applying fungicidal wash to ensure surfaces are clean and ready for application of our system.
- We then install insulation boards (complete with associated trims which are applied to external wall areas).
- A base coat of render is then applied on top of the insulation boards. This includes reinforcement mesh - this then has to be left to dry. (Typically 2-3 days).
- Once the base coat render is dry we apply a suitable decorative finish render, this can be; acrylic, silicone, dash or brick finish. (This again requires 2-3 days drying time).
- Any items removed from walls as detailed above or in the “Homeowner Site Survey Report (rainwater pipes, satellite dish etc) are then re-attached.
- Scaffolding is taken down and the area around your property is cleaned.
- We then have a final inspection by a Castle Point Insulation Inspector to check the job reaches our high standards.
- Once the homeowner is happy with our installation we then apply for a guarantee, this is issued by the manufacturer of the system.
Please note: An installation may take up to 3 weeks including erection and dismantling of any necessary scaffolding. Render and finishing processes are weather dependent (i.e. time is required for drying), and may be delayed in very cold weather, rain or very hot weather.
