Surveying Your House for Cavity Wall Insulation
If you’ve arranged an appointment through one of our Grant Advisors for your property to be surveyed then the following process will be carried out by our Insulation Assessor when he arrives at your home:
Explaining the process
Our Insulation Assessor will fully explain how cavity wall insulation works in terms of reducing heat loss in your property. This will include an explanation of how he will conduct your survey.
Inspecting your Cavity Wall
It is important we fully assess your property to confirm it is suitable for Cavity Wall Insulation. This involves drilling a small hole into each elevation to inspect the cavity to ensure it is suitable to be filled. The cavity must be at least 50mm wide to be successfully filled with insulation material. The examination holes will be filled after the inspection.
The cavity is checked by a Boroscope, this is an optical instrument which allows the Assessor to look inside the cavity.
Measurements taken
The surveyor will take measurements of the entire property to ensure that at the time of installation the installers have the correct amount of material to successfully complete the job.
Obstructions or Access
The Assessor will identify any possible access issues that may hinder the installers at the time of installation i.e. if any specialist equipment is needed (conservatory ladders, extra long lines). This will include walls that are not possible to be insulated either due to access issues or existing features such as conservatories or extensions.
Gas appliances check
If you have a gas appliance that is 7Kw or over then by law the installers must fit a combustion vent in the room where the appliance is. This is for Health and Safety reasons and to comply with gas safety legislation.
Your Assessor will fully advise you if this is required.
DO you qualify for FREE Home Insulation?
You may qualify to get the work done for free if you are on certain benefits or over the age of 70. Your Assessor will advise you if you qualify for a FREE Home Insulation.
After the Survey is complete
Once the survey is completed our Assessor will confirm everything he has inspected with you and advise if your property is suitable for Cavity Wall Insulation.
